Why Adobe Lightroom?

Some of you recommended LR after reading my last post. So please, tell me more about it.

My standard procedure in PS: Open CR2 with Camera Raw, fiddle around, then make them PSDs to re-open and add layers of contrast etc. Some retouching, then metadata follows and finally, they are converted to JPG.

I don’t yet own Lightroom, so I have never used it or had it on my screen and I don’t even know what it looks like.
